Structural Strengthening and Concrete Repairs
Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was contracted to carry out a complex remediation and structural strengthening project at a residential property in Palm Beach. The scope included:
- Carbon Fibre Strengthening Works to various structural elements
- Carbon Fibre Adhesion Testing and Reporting, including design and certification
- Concrete waterproofing membrane removal from terrace areas
- Grinding of raised concrete joints on rear terraces to resolve level issues
- Crack Injection to Level 1 suspended kitchen slab (approx. 48.5 linear meters)
- Concrete Cancer Repairs, estimated at 529 litres of repair material
- Installation of structural steel plate supports to the Level 1 kitchen and carport slabs
- Hand saw cutting and core drilling in varying diameters for structural access
- Timber post installation and bracket work
- Project management, supervision, and coordination.
Challenges
- The project involved high-end residential finishes and required careful protection and handling of surrounding areas.
- Access limitations at the site required tight coordination for materials, machinery, and personnel movement.
- The structural conditions uncovered during work called for on-the-fly design modifications, such as added reinforcement through steel supports and additional crack repairs.
- Noise and dust control had to be managed closely due to the proximity to occupied spaces.
- The multi-trade nature of the work (steel, concrete, waterproofing, structural engineering) required close coordination to prevent downtime or rework.
How PRR Overcame the Challenges
Perfect Remediation employed an agile and multidisciplinary approach:
- Worked with structural engineers to quickly adapt the carbon fibre scope and implement steel reinforcement strategies where needed.
- Conducted all concrete grinding, waterproofing removal, and drilling with dust suppression and slurry management systems to protect finishes and reduce nuisance.
- Hand tools and compact access equipment were used where full-scale machines couldn’t reach, ensuring progress without compromising safety.
- Careful project management and supervision ensured seamless coordination among remediation crews, suppliers, and client-side stakeholders.
- Implemented on-site reporting and daily task planning, maintaining a high standard of communication and transparency with the client.
