Pedestrian Bridge Remediation – St. Leonards
Project Details
- Client Forum Properties
- Location St. Leonards
- Duration 2 nights
Perfect Remediation was contracted to perform steel remediation of a pedestrian bridge at Herbert St in St. Leonards on behalf of our client, Forum Properties. The pedestrian bridge serves as a connection between St Leonards Train Station and Royal North Shore Hospital, spanning over the bustling Herbert Street and it plays a crucial role in facilitating movement in this busy area. In collaboration with our client, Perfect Remediation completed the work over two nights during a weekend to minimise disruption caused by heavy traffic on the bridge, which passes over a busy road.
The scope of works involved the remediation of sections of corroded structural steel connection nodes and the application of protective coating was undertaken to prevent future corrosion.
Perfect Remediation diligently carried out all the required authority planning and obtained approvals from the local Council, Traffic department, and Police, ensuring compliance with authority regulations.
Additionally, we implemented on-site pedestrian and traffic control measures to ensure the safety and smooth flow of both pedestrians and vehicles. To ensure safe access and completion of the structural works on the bridge, a temporary one-lane closure was implemented for the duration of the project. This measure was necessary due to the specific location of the works. Mobile elevated work platforms were utilised to carry out the tasks effectively and securely.
Despite the significant complexity and intensive nature of the project, which demanded extensive logistical thinking and planning, we efficiently navigated through various challenges and implemented effective solutions.
Successfully managing the allocation of suitable trades and resources allowed for the completion of works outside normal trade hours on a busy public road and pedestrian bridge. By implementing careful planning and managing the live environment with site management and traffic controllers, the challenge of managing traffic and pedestrians in a live environment was effectively addressed.
The challenge of maintaining safe access to the existing residential tower car park and conducting an on-site investigation to determine the extent of steel corrosion and damage was effectively resolved through immediate structural repairs, guided by the advice of the on-site structural engineer.
Perfect Remediation successfully completed the structural steel repairs and application of protective coatings, effectively ensuring the preservation of the structure’s longevity. The project proceeded smoothly and was completed within the designated timeframe. The client expressed great satisfaction with the final result.
