Blasting and coatings for Newcastle assets: Blasted to the specified class and coated inside the window
- Structural steel, tanks, bunds, pipework, bridges and concrete
- Blasted to the class the specification calls for
- Coated to the specifier's system before flash rust starts
- Vacuum recovery and containment inside an operating plant
- Kooragang, Tomago, Mayfield and the Hunter Valley
- No cars, boats, fences, homes or homeowner work
Yes, Perfect Remediation abrasive blasts and recoats structural steel, tanks, bunds, pipework, plant, bridges and concrete in Newcastle and the Hunter for asset owners, plant engineers, councils, water utilities and head contractors. The job is preparation to the class the specification calls for, a coating system applied to the specifier's system, and the records to prove it. Industrial, infrastructure and commercial assets only; what we do not do is set out below.
Call (02) 7912 3054 and ask for the Sydney team, or send the form with the specification.

What we blast and coat
A coating fails early when the surface was not cleaned to the specified class, the profile was wrong for the product, or the steel flash rusted before the primer went on. Preparation is the job. We blast and coat:
- Structural steel: beams, columns, gantries, platforms and stairs, garnet blasted and recoated.
- Tanks and bunds: external steel, bund walls and floors, chemical resistant linings where specified.
- Pipework and plant: pipe racks, vessels and process plant, vacuum recovery blasting inside operating facilities.
- Bridges: members, connections, railings and screens, staged around traffic and possessions.
- Concrete: surface preparation for coatings and repairs, sponge or soda media where the substrate is delicate, wet blasting where dust cannot be tolerated.
- Coating systems: zinc rich primers, two pack epoxies, polyurethane topcoats, high build and chemical resistant linings, to the specifier's system.
Where blasting exposes section loss or spalling, the repair comes first: see structural concrete remediation Newcastle. Where the old coating is lead or hazardous bearing, it is dealt with as part of the job.
Where this work happens in Newcastle
Newcastle and the Hunter carry port, coal, rail and water assets. The port and Kooragang Island hold loaders, conveyors, tanks, pipework and bunds sitting in salt air. Tomago and Mayfield hold heavy industry, process plant and fabrication yards. Hunter Water owns treatment plants, reservoirs and pump stations across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Maitland, with steel and tanks that need recoating on a cycle. The Hunter Valley rail corridor carries steel bridges, gantries and station structures, and the Hunter Valley plant from Kurri Kurri through Singleton to Muswellbrook holds steelwork, tanks and bunds. Council pools, grandstands, bridges and depots round it out. These are places we cover, not jobs we have done.
To be plain about it: our published blasting and coating jobs are in Sydney, at Mt Annan, Collaroy and Minto, and we have no Newcastle or Hunter job on the site yet. Crews, blast pots, compressors, containment and recovery gear travel up the M1 from our Marrickville base, and Hunter work is booked as a block so the crew sets up once and stays.
Our published blasting and coating jobs are few. At the Mt Annan Leisure Centre for Camden Council we sand blasted the existing pool slide steel, made spot repairs and recoated it with the specified three coat system inside an operating pool hall. At Collaroy, steel sheet piles across two basement levels were given a two coat epoxy coating; damp areas were dried and reprogrammed rather than painted over. At Unilever's Minto plant for Gordon Brothers Industries a stainless process vessel was prepared and coated inside a live plant. References are available on request.

How we do it
The same sequence on any asset:
- Contain. Sheeting, extraction or vacuum recovery to suit the site, so media and old coating stay in the work area.
- Blast to the specified class. Garnet, sponge, soda or wet blasting to suit the substrate and the site. We blast to the class the specification calls for and prove it, rather than telling you it looks clean.
- Test. Surface profile readings after the blast, soluble salt testing, and the environmental conditions checked before any coating goes on.
- Coat within the window. The system goes on before flash rust starts, with dry film thickness checked on every coat and holiday testing where the service condition demands it.
- Record. Profile, salts, conditions, film thickness and photographs on an ITP you can hand to your asset owner or engineer.
Before you ask for a price
What to send for a price:
- The specification or coating system: the blast class and film thickness it calls for.
- The substrate and the rough area: steel or concrete, and its condition.
- Access: heights, EWP or scaffold, confined spaces, inductions and permits.
- Operating constraints: whether the site keeps running, shutdown windows, night shifts, possessions.
- Containment needs: what is next door, what cannot take dust, whether media must be recovered on the spot.
Those things decide most of the cost. No specification yet? Send photos and tell us the exposure.
What we do not do
We do not blast or paint cars, boats, furniture, fences or homes. We do not take strata, owners corporation, apartment balcony, unit or homeowner work. We are not coating specifiers; your engineer or consultant sets the system and we apply it. Where the whole job is taking off a lead or asbestos bearing coating rather than preparing a surface for recoating, that is Perfect Contracting's lane, linked below.
Common questions
Who sets the coating system?
The specifier: your engineer, coating consultant or the asset owner's standard. We price to that system, blast to the class it calls for and apply the coats it names. No specification yet? Tell us the exposure and the service.
Can you blast inside an operating plant?
Yes, with containment, extraction and vacuum recovery so media and old coating stay in the work area. Shutdown windows, night shifts and possessions are normal work.
What records do you hand over?
Profile readings, soluble salt results, conditions at application, dry film thickness on every coat, holiday test results where called for, and photographs, on an ITP you can submit.
Have you blasted or coated anything in Newcastle?
Not yet on a published project. Our published blasting and coating jobs are in Sydney, and the crew travels to Newcastle and the Hunter from Marrickville with the same method, records and paperwork.

What happens next
Call (02) 7912 3054 or send the form with the specification, photos and operating constraints. The Sydney team reads the specification, walks the asset where it helps, and comes back with a method, programme and price.
