External Concrete Slab Extension - Storage Yard
Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was engaged by Albright & Wilson to construct a new external concrete storage slab as part of the facility’s yard expansion. The slab was designed to match existing ground levels and withstand the industrial loads associated with chemical storage and forklift traffic.
The scope included:
- Demolition of approx. 30m of existing kerb and removal of topsoil and vegetation
- Underground service locating using GPR and electromagnetic scanning
- Excavation to a depth of 300mm, including latent tree root removal
- Supply, placement, and compaction of roadbase
- Installation of double-layer SL82 mesh reinforcement, including starter bars and dowels
- Formwork setup, 32MPa concrete pour, and broom finish with control joints matching existing slab layout
Final backfilling along kerbs and reinstatement with topsoil to allow for grass regrowth
Challenges
- Strict safety compliance was mandatory within this industrial chemical facility, requiring site-specific inductions, permits, and adherence to controlled work zones
- The slab extension intersected undocumented service zones, increasing the risk of utility clashes
- Concrete placement and finishing had to be tightly managed to align with existing levels and drainage while minimizing disruption to the operational site
How PRR Overcame the Challenges
Perfect Remediation addressed these challenges with methodical planning and communication:
- Completed full underground utility scan prior to excavation, reviewed BYDA plans, and followed all QL-A/QL-B safety protocols per AS 5488
- All works were completed under a detailed Inspection & Test Plan (ITP), including photographic evidence and traceable QA documentation for each task
- Slab levels were surveyed and cut to match the existing pour, with Connelly control joints installed to prevent cracking and ensure long-term durability
- Delivered the project safely, on time, and in full compliance with Albright & Wilson’s safety and environmental procedures
