Penrith Australia Post Office Stormwater Upgrade
Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was engaged by Proactive Contracting to deliver a comprehensive stormwater infrastructure upgrade at the Penrith Australia Post Office site. The scope included:
- Supply and installation of two new 150mm stainless steel downpipes, along with nozzles and astragals
- Leaf guard installation to existing half-round gutters to prevent blockage from overhanging trees
- In-ground stormwater pipework, including trench excavation, PVC to RHS adapter installation, and inspection openings
- Kerb modifications and connection to council-approved outlets
- Reinstatement of pavers and provision of new paving sand after trenching
- Temporary fencing and site signage to secure the work area
- Council applications and coordination with Penrith City Council for road opening, restoration bonds, and temporary structure permits.
Challenges
- The project required external works near a public-facing facility, posing logistical constraints with pedestrian movement and operational continuity of the Post Office.
- Coordination with council was necessary for permits, road openings, and reinstatement requirements.
- Subsurface conditions had to be carefully managed, including potential clashes with unknown underground services, which could delay excavation.
- There was a need to maintain clear, safe access for the public while conducting invasive trenching and piping work in a confined urban setting.
How PRR Overcame the Challenges
Perfect Remediation managed the challenges through proactive planning and communication:
- Conducted “Dial Before You Dig” assessments and coordinated closely with local authorities to confirm service locations and avoid conflicts during excavation.
- Installed temporary mesh fencing with screening and signage, ensuring safe separation between the public and active work areas.
- Executed trenching and reinstatement with minimal surface disruption, working within the project’s footprint to reduce impact on pedestrians and adjacent structures.
- Managed council liaison and permit acquisition on the client’s behalf, ensuring compliance with road opening and structure placement regulations.
- Provided project supervision and coordination without reliance on external traffic control, thus reducing cost while maintaining safety and order on-site.
