Remediation of Four Short Span Bridges in Marrickville
Project Locations:
- Victoria Road Bridge, Marrickville
- Le Clos Lane Bridge, Marrickville
- Silver Street Bridge, Marrickville
- Garners Avenue Bridge, Marrickville

Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was awarded a contract by Inner West Council to remediate four ageing concrete bridges across the Marrickville. The primary objective was to restore structural integrity, treat corrosion, and extend the service life of each structure. Works were completed across live stormwater channels and urban roadways.
The scope included:
- Concrete spalling and crack repairs across soffits, beams, and edge slabs
- Square cutting and breakout of delaminated concrete
- Steel treatment and protective re-passivation, including zinc-rich priming
- Installation of supplementary reinforcement where steel loss exceeded 50%
- Crack injection using approved epoxy systems
- Environmental controls for stormwater protection
- Traffic and pedestrian management across all sites
- Detailed QA and repair tracking, with logs maintained for all patches and material applications.
Bridge-Specific Highlights
Victoria Road Bridge
- Extensive soffit spall repairs
- Work within a live Sydney Water stormwater channel
- Significant QA logging including depth measurements and corrosion observations
Le Clos Lane Bridge
- Spall repairs on soffit and slab edge
- Chain-link fencing corrosion treatment at corner CHS posts
- Compact work zone required lean access and material handling methods
Silver Street Bridge
- Widespread delaminated concrete patches treated and reinstated
- Crack injection from soffit and deck top to ensure full-thickness repair
- Balustrade and steel railing touch-up and recoating
- High pedestrian exposure
Garners Avenue Bridge
- Targeted soffit and beam end patching
- Work scheduled around utility access and drainage easements.
Challenges
- The project required environmental compliance for all four bridges due to their location within live stormwater channels
- Access to underside repairs involved coordination with Sydney Water for permits
- The scope varied by bridge and required on-the-fly adaptations to repair volumes and sequencing
- Multiple authorities were involved, including Inner West Council, Sydney Water, and Dial Before You Dig, demanding careful planning and compliance.
How PRR Overcame the Challenges
Perfect Remediation successfully delivered the project across all four bridges through skilled coordination and strict quality controls:
- Liaised with stakeholders to establish safe, complaint work zones in environmentally sensitive areas
- Deployed experienced technicians and site supervisors to ensure repair compliance with AS5100 and engineering guidelines
- Maintained a comprehensive repair log, detailing patch sizes, depths, material batches, and curing progress
- Traffic control and access management were handled internally to ensure cost-effective delivery
- Completed all works under an integrated QA and environmental management plan.
