General Concrete Remediation & Barrier Installation - Dangerous Goods Storage Area
Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was engaged to deliver a range of remediation and protection works at the Albright & Wilson chemical manufacturing facility in Wetherill Park.
The project consisted of multiple concrete repairs and structural adjustments within the site’s Dangerous Goods Storage Zone, which included both slab replacement and protective barrier installation.
Works included:
- Removal and replacement of a deteriorated concrete slab (approx. 5.2m x 1.8m) in front of the Dangerous Goods Storage Area.
- Saw-cutting and breakout of the existing slab, followed by removal and disposal.
- Concrete scanning prior to cutting to locate buried services.
- Installation of new steel dowels and reinforcement mesh, followed by new concrete pour with broom or coved finish.
- Final cleaning and reinstatement of the working area.
Additional scope across the facility included:
- Stabilisation of dislodged concrete walls, damaged by pallet impact from forklifts.
- Installation of galvanised L-shaped angle restraints anchored between the floor slab and bunting wall.
- Installation of rubber or plastic pallet bumper stops to prevent further wall damage.
- Localised concrete patching at drumming station areas to eliminate trip hazards.
Challenges
As with any work inside a live industrial chemical facility, the project presented multiple operational and procedural challenges:
- Strict safety compliance was required, including Albright & Wilson’s full site induction, work permit system, and adherence to hazardous materials protocols.
- Mandatory PPE, speed restrictions, and high-visibility work zones had to be enforced and maintained.
- The team had to coordinate all tasks around ongoing plant operations, ensuring zero disruption to critical infrastructure.
- Tight working areas, combined with high pedestrian and forklift traffic, required constant vigilance and well-managed access control.

- Installed barriers and restraints to reduce future asset damage caused by forklifts and pallet movement.
- Delivered the concrete slab replacement and protection systems on time and with zero safety incidents.
