Oil Spill Soil Remediation & Waste Disposal
Scope of Works
Perfect Remediation was contracted by Kraft Heinz to perform urgent remediation works following an oil spill incident at their Seven Hills site. The affected area spanned approximately 10m x 20m, with an estimated excavation depth of 300mm. The project involved the removal and disposal of contaminated N120 oil-impacted soil and full site restoration.
The works included:
- Call-out mobilisation and on-site supervision
- Hire of 3-tonne Bobcat and hook-lift truck, including machine floating
- Supply and application of oil spill absorbent materials (approx. 20 bags)
- Excavation and removal of approx. 6.36 tonnes of contaminated soil, classified as N120 controlled waste
- EPA-compliant waste tracking and documentation, including transport certificate and manifest
- Backfilling and reinstatement of the excavated area with clean fill.
Challenges
- The incident required an immediate response to prevent further environmental impact and disruption to the client’s operations
- The project involved handling, transport, and disposal of classified waste (N120 – oil-contaminated soil), subject to NSW EPA regulations
- Ensuring all works complied with liquid waste response protocols, including notification, containment, and clean-up standards
- The site layout limited maneuverability for heavy vehicles and required careful access coordination.
How PRR Overcame the Challenges
Perfect Remediation successfully delivered a compliant and efficient outcome by:
- Mobilising promptly and deploying experienced HAZMAT-trained crews with the appropriate machinery and PPE
- Coordinating with Cleanaway Environmental Services to arrange certified waste transport and disposal to a licensed facility in Ingleburn
- Managing all EPA reporting and documentation, including the waste transport certificate (No. 2T01370585) and soil weight logs
- Restoring the excavation zone using compacted clean fill, leaving the area in a safe and operational condition post-remediation
- Ensuring all work was completed within a single operational window, reducing risk and disruption for Kraft Heinz.
